We are here to commission this beautiful structure in commemoration of the life of one of the most extraordinary persons that the Ghanaian people have ever given to the world.
On behalf of the people and government of Ghana, I express my sincere appreciation to the International Council of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award for holding Forum 2018 in Ghana.
I begin with words from Holy Scripture, in Psalm 118 verse 24, and I quote, “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Today is a very happy day for me. It is a day when we begin the process of banishing the spectre of desperation, and restoring hope and dignity to our youth.
Charming, cosmopolitan, consensus-builder, elegant, eloquent, gentle-mannered, modest, polyglot, proud African, peacemaker, quintessential diplomat, these words are still inadequate to capture the fullness of the personality of Kofi Annan, one of the truly iconic figures of modern times.
