Speeches

I welcome all of you to Jubilee House, the seat of our nation’s presidency, and I express my sincerest gratitude to you for honouring this invitation.

Fellow Ghanaians,

Mr Speaker, I am glad to be here again in this august House to perform one of the most pleasant duties on the calendar of the President of the Republic, that is to give Honourable Members and the Ghanaian people a Message on the State of the Nation. It will be the fourth of my current mandate.

Speech By The President Of The Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, At The 63rd Independence Day Celebration Parade, At The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi, Ashanti Region, On Friday, 6th March, 2020.

Fellow Ghanaians, good evening.

I have come into your homes tonight on a matter of major importance for the nation and for me personally. It concerns the Referendum of 17th December, whose purpose is to seek popular support for the repeal of article 55(3) of the Constitution, a provision which, currently, bars political parties from involvement in district elections and local governance.
