President Mills Donates To Senya Bereku Accident Victims
President John Evans Atta Mills has presented GHc10,000.00 to the authorities of the Winneba Government to take care of medical expenses of the victims of the Tuesday December 27th Senya Bereku accident.
Madam Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Central Regional Minister made the donation on behalf of the President when she visited the victims at the hospital on Wednesday.
Twenty-Seven people mostly youth were killed when a Water Tanker run into a group of holiday makers at a cannibal event on Tuesday at about 2115 hours. Another 27 people were also injured.
Both the dead and the injured were sent to the Winneba Government Hospital.
Madam Benyiwa-Doe said the President called her from US to express his condolence to the bereaved families and subsequently directed her to make the donation.
Madam Benyiwa-Doe, wept when Dr George Kwame Prah, Acting Medical Director of Winneba Government Hospital, took her round the wards of victims and the mortuary.
The Regional Minister called on drivers to be circumspect on the road to avoid such unfortunate situation and charged the transport authorities to intensify their education to ensure safety on the road.
Dr Prah regretted that out of somebody’s carelessness many lives had been lost.
He received the money and thanked the government for the support.
Dr Prah used the occasion to appeal to the general public to also come to the aid of the hospital so as to contain the situation.
The Acting Medical Director said those on admission are responding to treatment.
Dr Prah said two young boys had one of their legs amputated; adding that two victims were also sent to Agona Swedru Government Hospital and arrangements had been made to bring them back.
